Violin lessons at Ivy Music Academy are a combination of careful technique and fun. Any student above the age of 5 will be challenged and excited by the many intricacies of the violin. It is a beautiful and diverse instrument - so, whether you are interested in playing the fiddle in a country show or practicing the compositions of Bach, the violin provides something for everyone!
Beginning students
The beginning violin student will learn the basics of right and left hand technique, rhythm, dynamics, note-reading/sight-reading, and interpretation. In addition, they will be taught how to properly assemble, tune, and store the violin. Beginning violin repertoire will be catered towards the genre that interests the student in question. The suggested lesson time for a beginning student is 30 minutes.
Intermediate students
The intermediate student is expected to be proficient in right and left hand technique, rhythm, and note-reading/sight-reading. Though the lessons will be used as an opportunity to further establish these important skills, the intermediate student will be expected to rigorously practice the art of interpretation. At this level, students will be encouraged to forge their own, individual musical paths. The suggested lesson time for the intermediate student is 45 minutes.
Advanced students
The advanced violin student is expected to be an expert at right and left hand technique, rhythm, and note-reading/sight-reading. Again, these skills will be further established in lessons – but the student must have a very clear understanding of these concepts. Musical interpretation will be emphasized, as well as the building of advanced repertoire. The suggested lesson time for the advanced student is 1 hour.
